There are so many mysteries in the world that can never be solved. Is our fate already determined? Do our actions affect what will happen to ourselves and others? Is our reputation already decided? What is keeping us from what we want to do? But the real question is:
There are lots that defines you. It determines what will happen, how it will happen, and what impact it will have. There are things that make us question what we do, make us do things that are unexpected, and make us say weird things. We all question ourselves, so why don’t we start with this simple question. What defines you?
There is the past, the present and the future that can greatly help define ourselves. In the past, we have so many memories, but there are also those that we’ve forgot. All these important things we remember or forgot shapes us. The time we spent with our families, the time we meet new people, and the time we found love. There are so many things that happen, that we can easily forget. Those events can be the first time you said hello to someone or the little things that you used to do. Each thing that we do affects what defines us, but it can also strengthen us. Some people may say that our past doesn’t define us, which is also true. The past is NOT the whole picture. There are people who change and are completely different from how they were before. But why? Some change because of their past.
“Progress is Impossible without change, and those who cannot change their minds cannot change anything.”
With all the good memories we have, there’s bound to be some bad ones. Although we may not want to remember these, they help us learn and improve what we will do in the future. The past helps define what we will do about our mistakes. If we didn’t have the bad things in our lives, how can we improve from that? How will we know if what we did is bad? Without the past, we are just a person; but with it, we are all special and unique in our own way.
“I made a lot of mistakes in my past. But id you judge me on what I did in my past, then you don’t belong in my future.”
The future is also import with what defines us. There are so many things that could happen in the future. We can conquer those struggles we had, we can be involved in what we always wanted to do, and we have could finally have that one conversation we always thought about. The future is what we all look forward to. If there was no future, what would the point of all of this work be? It shows us what we would and could do. We do most things based on what we will do in the future. Planning a party, an event, a meeting, or a wedding. We have so many things to look forward to that it has a huge role in what defines us. With the time we may have in the future, it can be a little overwhelming, but take a deep breath. There is so much more to the definition of you. All of this helps us decide what we will do right now, but is also not the whole picture.
“The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.” -Eleanor Roosevelt
The present is another role that plays in what defines us. What we do right now can determine our future. It can affect ourselves or others around us. There are decisions we made that positively affected everyone around us, but some…not so much. Those bad decisions doesn’t always have to define us. What we do about it is the most important. What we did is the past. Live in the moment and do something about it. Yeah, there can second chances later in life, but the opportunity may have just slipped by. While there are bad decisions, there are good decisions. By making good choices, it can boost our self esteem, improve what we think about ourselves, and overall positively define us. It doesn’t have a be a huge decisions to positively affect everyone. It can be as easy as choosing to hold the door for someone, say hello, or ask how they are. There are so many ways to define us without the stress.
“Don’t cry over the past, it’s gone. Don’t stress about the future, it hasn’t arrived. Live in the present and make it beautiful…”
Our actions are just a section of the puzzle. Don’t stress about it. What we like is also a part the puzzle we call life. We we like to do, what music we like, what interests us is the MOST important. It defines you. It separates you from your friends, it makes you unique, it makes you one of a kind, and most importantly, it makes you, YOU. Do what you love and don’t let anyone get in the way of that. If we are all the same, how would we tell each other apart? The most important factor of making you is what you love.
“Today you are YOU, that is truer than true. There is NO ONE alive that is YOU-ER than YOU!” -Dr. Seuss
Overall, There are so many questions that lead to this simple question. For example, when you hear about something someone else did, do you ask yourself about why something happened? Just ask what defines them? What happened in their past, what do they want to do to for their future, what are they doing about it, and what is their personality like? Once you figure out and understand them, it can make a lot more sense about what happened. By just asking this simple question, it can make everything easier to understand.
There are reasons why some things happen and there are reasons why they don’t. Good things happen and bad things happen so we can improve and learn. We just need to realize that we can always change what defines us. We are all one of a kind and no one can be YOU.
